Working Together to Prevent Suicide

World Suicide Prevention Day (WSPD) takes place every year on 10th September. It’s a global day of awareness and reflection, bringing people together to reduce stigma, raise awareness, and show support for those affected by suicide.

It’s also a time to remind ourselves that suicide is preventable and that every one of us has a role to play in creating a society where people feel safe, supported, and able to talk about their mental health.

Why It Matters

Every suicide is a devastating loss that affects families, friends, workplaces, and whole communities. While the reasons behind suicide are complex, with the right support and timely intervention, lives can be saved.

World Suicide Prevention Day is a chance to:

  • Remember those we’ve lost

  • Support those who are struggling

  • Promote open and compassionate conversations about mental health

  • Encourage people to reach out for help and to offer support to others

How You Can Get Involved

  • Join the Campaign – Get your work, family or friends involved in our local Creating Hope through Light campaign.
  • Start a conversation – Simply asking someone how they are and truly listening can make a real difference.

  • Educate yourself – Learn to recognise the signs that someone may be struggling – Take our FREE suicide prevention training here.

  • Share information – Help us raise awareness by sharing facts, stories, and support services on social media.

  • Support local services – Whether through volunteering, fundraising, or advocacy, your support helps us reach more people.
