This campaign seeks to raise awareness about mental health challenges faced by Black, Asian, and Minority Ethnic (BAME) men, using culturally sensitive approaches and providing barbers with free mental health first aid training to support their clients. By empowering barbers in Chelmsford and Colchester to offer guidance and signposting services, the initiative aims to foster community support, encourage open conversations, and promote the availability of relevant mental health resources. Targeting Black men and other ethnic minorities under 55, particularly those who visit local barbershops, the campaign also engages community leaders, mental health advocates, and health organisations. Its long-term vision is to establish a network of mental health-aware barbershops across Essex, creating safe community spaces that reduce stigma and improve access to culturally sensitive mental health support.
